“Older”

 From: Past & Present

To: Future

The more your eyes begin to see,

creating comparison from ‘them’,

depicting how you now view ‘me’.

The more your ears hear,

lending creative opportunities to your mind,

to bury the thoughts that used to live there.

I’m getting older.

Your view of others changing like shifting shadows.

New experiences posing new questions-

to add to the list of many others gone unanswered.

Or even how those same eyes years ago,

look out so different, scornfully-

or the judgment which grows,

towards those that were once on your pedestal.

It all seems to happen just out of your control,

leaving you wondering how you got here,

as you’ve grown up through the old mirror.

I’m getting older.

You can never quite see the same again,

all you’ve been exposed to…

secretly trying to sculpt you.

I guess that’s the thing bout life,

going on you’re victim to all the knowledge this world has for you.

Good and bad,

that’s the most fair thing I think it has to offer-

a fair chance to cloud and mark your innocence-

Your not knowing to knowing,

willing and unwillingly,

A  so called “freedom”,

so silly…

I’m getting older.

So much talk with so little action?

but if you were to shout then you'd be shunned.

Too "quiet for the cause",

Too "loud for a change",

what then do I do,

when everyone casts out their different blames?

I'm getting older.

Times like these I'm tempted,

to cheers to arrogance and insolence.

A toast to lack of knowledge,

ears deaf to wisdom,

as the lack thereof is accompanied with less grief.

However, I'd rather cry than laugh in today's world,

yet, how much easier it is to be the fool,

than to play it knowing what you will.

Still it's never enough,

after all I am not God to know it all.

In spite of that I still stall,

hoping for a change to come,

holding unto faith, though small-

yet where is the action?

As it seems to do anything, something,

might just be my only option.

I'm getting older.

It sounds disheartening,

but I promise I say this all not to trouble you.

As I go on,

each day,

every moment I'm gifted.

Though I can't go back to when I was younger,

may I forever be grateful,

that I have the fortune of getting older.
