“The Hypocrite”
So what if I don't practice what I preach?
You don't even have to dare,
you can go on freely,
and call me a "hypocrite."
I'd rather say to do what I hadn't,
don't care for what I would choose...
It's about you,
not me.
Here I am investing in who you are to be,
so you don't turn out like me,
and old enemy.
Let me play the hypocrite,
the one with all the answers,
but so many questions.
Let me play the hypocrite,
the one who you want to speak to,
but choose not to listen to.
Let me play the hypocrite,
the one who responds with right,
but fell into so much wrong.
Let me play the hypocrite,
the one who knows what to do,
but fails to fall into the habit of doing.
Let me play the hypocrite,
the one who sugar coats gently,
but speaks too harshly and bluntly.
Let me play the hypocrite,
the one who a genuine smile wears,
but cries more tears.
Let me play the hypocrite,
the one who too many look up to,
but is too blind to see what they all do.
Let me play the hypocrite,
the one who does too much,
but still isn't doing enough.
Please,
I don't care if you dare.
It seems someone has to have darkness see light.
It seems someone has to be wrong to be right.
It seems someone has to give up and still fight.
So I guess, for now,
if the cap fits,
I'll play the hypocrite.
